Comment from Drewermann’s biographer, Matthias Beier, on the report of the Archdiocese of Munich accusing Pope Benedict guilty of concealing clergy sexual abuse: „While Ratzinger/Benedict XVI minimized sexual abuse by clergy he at the same time silenced Germany’s most vocal whistleblower, Eugen Drewermann, who as a priest had described in an international bestseller on clergy mentality (Kleriker) how the church hierarchy creates structures that encourage the mentality behind clergy sexual abuse. Ratzinger pushed to have Drewermann stripped of his license to teach theology and suspended as a priest for speaking the truth. Recently, Bishop Wilmer has admitted that if only the church hierarchy had listened to Drewermann in 1989, a lot of harm could have been prevented. A major worldwide report on the abuse crisis released by Melbourne’s RMIT University in Australia concluded the same. Ratzinger’s theology, which is structurally based on patriarchal fear and compulsion, is behind the history of his denial which the new Report from the Archdiocese of Munich finally documents. It is about time that the Catholic Church implement the astute psychologically informed reforms Drewermann has been calling for the past forty years.“ https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2022/01/20/germany-church-abuse-benedict/?commentID=60015409-6b51-4ca6-a283-ef7e31692bae
